Chromium Picolinate in SodaBurn: What 7 mcg Means

Chromium picolinate in SodaBurn is a form of the mineral chromium, printed at 7 mcg per serving, or 20% of the 35 mcg Daily Value. It is the only ingredient with its own amount on the panel. Weight trials of chromium picolinate used 200 to 1,000 mcg, at least 28 times more than the label shows.

The basics

What is chromium picolinate in SodaBurn?

Chromium picolinate is chromium, a trace mineral, bound to picolinic acid. The SodaBurn panel text lists "chromium (as chromium picolinate)" at 7 mcg per serving. A microgram (mcg) is a thousandth of a milligram.

It sits first on the panel, apart from the blend. That makes it the one ingredient whose amount you can read straight off the label. The other 21 names share a single total of 15.47 mg per 1 ml, and none has its own amount.

The NIH describes chromium as a mineral the body needs only in tiny amounts, and says its role in the body is still unclear (NIH ODS, Chromium). We have not seen a photo of the Supplement Facts panel. The text comes from the brief, so check your own bottle against it.

The number

How much is a chromium 7 mcg serving?

A chromium 7 mcg serving is 20% of the Daily Value. The Daily Value for chromium is 35 mcg, which is also the Adequate Intake the NIH sets for men aged 19 to 50 (NIH ODS, Chromium). For women in that age range, the Adequate Intake is 25 mcg.

Now compare it with research. The Cochrane review of chromium picolinate for weight tested doses of 200, 400, 500 and 1,000 mcg (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013)). The lowest of those is at least 28 times the printed amount. The highest is at least 142 times.

The meter below puts the four numbers on one scale. The 7 mcg bar is short on purpose. It is drawn to the same scale as the others.

Chromium on the label, per serving7 mcg
Adequate Intake, men 19 to 50 (Daily Value)35 mcg
Lowest dose in the Cochrane trials200 mcg
Highest dose in the Cochrane trials1,000 mcg

The Cochrane review tested 200 to 1,000 micrograms. It found no dose gradient and no reliable evidence for firm decisions. (NIH ODS, Chromium) (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013))

The NIH reports that no Tolerable Upper Intake Level has been set for chromium (NIH ODS, Chromium). That is not a green light for large amounts. It means the data were not enough to set a limit.

The evidence

Does chromium picolinate weight loss research hold up?

Research on chromium picolinate and weight shows a small gap at best. The Cochrane review pooled nine trials with 622 adults, lasting up to 24 weeks (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013)). Over 12 to 16 weeks, people on chromium lost about 1.1 kg more than people on placebo.

The reviewers called that gap "of debatable clinical relevance" and rated the evidence low quality. They found no dose pattern, so higher doses did not do better. They wrote that there is no current, reliable evidence for firm decisions about chromium picolinate for people who are overweight or obese (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013)).

The NIH points to a 2019 pooling of trials with a similar story: 0.75 kg less weight and 0.68% less body fat than placebo, described as of little clinical significance (NIH ODS, Chromium). The NIH also says little is known about whether weight loss supplements work at all (NIH ODS, Weight loss supplements).

The label front says "Supports Daily Fat Metabolism†". Nothing in these trials tests that wording at 7 mcg, and nothing tests the bottle. We do not claim that SodaBurn changes weight.

Medicine check

Is a chromium supplement a problem with diabetes medicine?

A chromium supplement can matter if you take diabetes medicine. The NIH says chromium may add to the sugar-lowering effect of metformin, other diabetes drugs and insulin, which may raise the risk of low blood sugar (NIH ODS, Chromium).

At 7 mcg the effect may be small, and we found no source that measures it for SodaBurn. But the blend also names gymnema leaf extract, which acts on blood sugar in trials (Zamani 2023, Gymnema meta-analysis). Together, that is enough reason to ask first.

Keep taking prescribed medicine. Never stop or change it because of a supplement. Ask your doctor or pharmacist before you start SodaBurn if you take diabetes medicine or insulin, blood thinners, blood pressure or heart medicine, stimulants, seizure medicine, or if you have liver or kidney disease, are pregnant or nursing, or have surgery soon.

Putting it in context

How does chromium fit with the rest of the SodaBurn label?

Chromium is one of 22 lines on the SodaBurn panel, and it is the only one with a plain, comparable number. That makes it the fairest place to start reading the label.

A printed amount

7 mcg is stated, so you can compare it with the Daily Value and with trials. Most of the label cannot be checked that way.

No source for the bottle

No published trial tested SodaBurn. Every finding here belongs to chromium picolinate alone, at the doses studied.

A low printed amount

7 mcg is far under study doses, so those results do not map onto it.

The rest of the label is the blend. Read how the 15.47 mg total is shared on the blend page, or see every line side by side on the ingredients page. For the other main stimulant names, see guarana and green tea extract.

Weight care rests on eating, activity, sleep and stress care, at about 1 to 2 pounds a week (CDC, Steps for losing weight) (NIDDK, Safe weight-loss programs).

FAQ

SodaBurn questions people ask

What is chromium picolinate?

Chromium picolinate is chromium, a trace mineral, bound to picolinic acid. It is a common supplement form. The NIH says the body needs only tiny amounts and that its exact role is still unclear (NIH ODS, Chromium).

How much chromium is in SodaBurn?

The panel text prints 7 mcg of chromium (as chromium picolinate) per serving. That is 20% of the 35 mcg Daily Value. Confirm the figure on your own bottle, since we have not seen a photo of the panel.

Is 7 mcg of chromium enough to matter?

It is a small, nutritional-sized amount. Weight trials of chromium picolinate used 200 to 1,000 mcg (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013)). No study tested 7 mcg for weight, so we cannot say it does anything.

Does chromium picolinate help with weight loss?

Evidence is weak. A Cochrane review found about 1.1 kg more loss than placebo over 12 to 16 weeks, of debatable clinical relevance and low quality (Cochrane, Chromium picolinate (2013)). The NIH calls the effect of little clinical significance (NIH ODS, Chromium).

Can chromium affect blood sugar medicine?

Yes, it may. The NIH says chromium may add to the sugar-lowering effect of metformin, other diabetes drugs and insulin, raising the risk of low blood sugar (NIH ODS, Chromium). Ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

What is the Daily Value for chromium?

The Daily Value for chromium is 35 mcg (NIH ODS, Chromium). SodaBurn's printed 7 mcg is 20% of that. The Adequate Intake is 35 mcg for men and 25 mcg for women aged 19 to 50.

Is there an upper limit for chromium?

The NIH reports that no Tolerable Upper Intake Level has been set (NIH ODS, Chromium). That reflects limited data, not proof that large amounts are fine. Ask a doctor before taking more than a label directs.

Should I take the chromium amount in SodaBurn separately?

Ask a doctor or pharmacist about any extra chromium on top of SodaBurn. The label counts only its own 7 mcg, so a second product adds to it. Tell every provider about every supplement you take.
